Creating a European research community digital infrastructure

Similar to other digital research infastructures like TEI-EpiDoc,the real success of any project within the digital humanities is entirely dependent upon the building of a long term European research community, training on using the resource, continuous addition of new material, and the revision of existing entries.
To enable researchers to familiarise themselves with this digital research infrastructure "Samian Research" with its 245'000 recorded potter stamps at the Römisch-Germanisches Zentralmuseum (RGZM), a European team of those who are involved in its conception are organising series of workshops throughout Europe to strengthen the international research community to process material. Also institutions within regions which are not so well covered by the current dataset are invited to join this interenational research network by organising workshops. Individuals may apply for a trainnig session at Mainz or Peterborough.

Roman Samian (Terra-sigillata) is, together with Roman amphora, one of the rare artefacts in archaeology which has a wide recognisable distribution in long-distance trade, and as such is of supra-regional importance in understanding the complexity of the Roman economy. The contents of the RGZM database offer a multitude of possibilities for new and innovative research to existing and new students.

The Samian Research project organises workshops for database editing training purposes. The following workshops have already been realised:
