An old drawing of a Roman votive
altar dedicated to the god Hercules Magusanus and the goddess Haeva.
Unfortunately, the stone itself has been lost over the course of the
centuries. The inscription translates as follows: ‘Ulpius Lupio and Ulpia Ammava have (hereby) willingly and with reason kept their promise to Hercules Magusanus and Haeva, for the benefit of their children’. (after Keysler, J.G., 1720: Antiguitates slectae septentrionales et Celticae, fig. XI) |
